Speaking of '79... |
...but at the other end of the year. It's in danger of becoming my personal Stairway To Heaven, but
this show contains my favorite Jack Straw (thanks
billydlions). It's the acid/Clive version and the aud recording just helps put it over the top. Play it loud!

Re: Speaking of '79... |
^^^ why the hijack?
anyhew, I concur that 11-01-1979 is a nice show, although after listening to all of these great fall 1979 shows the past 2 years, 11-01 has fallen down the list...it's a slower, groovier show...scarlet>fire is nice, but doesn't get into my top 10-15...
you may enjoy this one too, has some real nice moments, particularly the huge EYES>ESTIMATED>FRANKLINS...

Actually, I was referring to Jan. 11, not Nov. 1. I'm not making any claims about the entire show, just the Jack Straw...

Re: Speaking of '79... |
Early 79 doesn't get a lot of respect, as some shows were terrible. But 1-8-79, 1-15-79, 2-3-79 and 2-17-79 are great shows (as were many others...Nassau, Shea). Jerry was playing like a madman and at warp speed, even on slower songs. That Jack Straw, Cassidy from 1/7 and Lazy from 2-17 are all great examples of his speed playing. The Scarlet Fires from 1/8 and 2/3 are some of my personal favorites.
